Using external memory
It is a very good idea to expand the memory using external memory by connecting a PCMCIA
adapter and Compact Flash or Secure Digital memory cards. You can NOT use 32 bit Cardbus
types, but only the 16 bit PCMCIA to CF or PCMCIA to SD adapters. When sliding an adapter
into the keyboards PCMCIA slot, take care not to use excessive force! Just slide the adaptor
into the slot with minimal force, to prevent damage to the internal PCMCIA port pins.
Most PCMCIA to SD adaptors are supporting till 2GB SD memory cards, depending on the
adapters. I prefer using 1GB SD cards and 1 and 2 GB CF cards. Most of the PCMCIA to CF
adaptors and also the E-80 and G-70 are supporting till 4GB CF cards. When these smaller
capacity memorycards are difficult to get in shops, try getting them on Ebay. Do NOT use the
industrial types or ultra high speed and / or SDHC types. They are not compatible. Always
format the memory cards in the keyboard and not at the computer. There is no need to use
larger memory cards as the keyboard indexes most files in the database and when the
amount of files is growing, the database will also slow down Please, keep that in mind.
In short: UPG (User ProGram), UPS (User Program Set) and MA’s
All names, references of Styles, UPG's and MA's (Music Assistant) are stored in database
files (present in internal and external memory DB map). New to add files of Styles and
UPG's MUST be added by putting them into their specific 'Put New .... Here' map in the
internal or external memorystorage. Only this way the database will update correctly.
UPS (User Program Set) are only UPG-lists with max. 144 entries per set (18 pages with 8
entries). This way people can make their own sets for all kind of specific occasions. An UPS
does not contain UPG's nor Styles but only contains references to them. UPS files reside
always in the Userprg folder and are NEVER added through the "Put New UserPrograms
Here" folder.
When making or editting a UPG (User ProGram), it is a good idea to have one 'SPARE' (free)
entry in the current loaded UPS (Set) e.g. the last entry: To save the made or editted UPG
there when that one was not already in the set. When this one is already in the set, you can
just overwrite that same entry. Music Assistant (MA) does ONLY work with UPG's in Internal
memory. In the User program Options screen you can set UPG's to be MA's.
An UPS (Set) can also contain the personal custom added stylenames. When you add style-
names into the internal Custom Style pages, their references are stored into the current
loaded UPS. So, do not forget to save the UPS when changes are made, otherwise those
changes will be lost...
