And let us assume you have a card already for storing lots of 3rd party styles, older Roland
styles, SMFs, lyrics, etc., etc.. Save your edited ROM style there, same problem.... The same
for 3rd party styles for other arrangers, projects for commercial clients, and style creation
from MIDI file projects you may have going on.
Your best solution here is to have a separate Card for each big task. It will save you from
having to search, hunt and peck for all the relevant files when they are mixed up on one
card, and having to do a lot of computer transferring chores, where, unfortunately, you can
not even select by Date Modified, because the G70 doesn't time stamp it's files.
One other use for a another dedicated card is that there is a hidden function that can backup
the entire Internal memory to a card, and transfer it back in without messing up the
Database. This allows you to have a clone of your internal drive available in the event (touch
wood!) that your G70 crashes, and takes out it's entire memory just before a gig, when you
away from your computer.
So you can see there are several good reasons to consider getting more than just ONE
Memory Card.
G-70 - overall sound tips
When you see the specifications on the G-70, there is no doubt that it must be one of the
best keyboards in the arranger keyboard area. The sound chip has 192 MB wave memory
and some sounds are from the Fantom X synth. You get a lot of new styles, a VK8 (alike)
organ with drawbars and a vocal harmonist. Can you expect more from an arranger
keyboard? Yes, it has to sound good and that was not the case when the G-70 was released
in November 2004 and first when I installed the OS2 in September 2005 the out of the box
sound sounds acceptable. I finally start enjoying playing the keyboard, but still missed the
WOW feeling you get when something sounds really good. Read this tip, and you might get
the same WOW feeling as I have now experienced...
The problem might be that the bottom sounds (Kick drums and basses / low frequency
sounds) are not harmonized with the other sounds, which means that some sounds are too
near the bottom sounds and will result in an overall rumble sound.
In the last 10 months, I have tried to make the G-70 sound as good as possible, but I have
never been 100% satisfied with the overall sound -
until now. The trick is to the sound image:
The bottom sounds and the Acc. have to be separated and then put some good reverb to the
Acc. sounds to obtain a softer sound. You can do it this way:
